Well, I found the problem. Starting software-center from the terminal resulted in this output:

I needed to set the proxy to Manual, empty the proxies fields and select Apply System-wide (or similar, I have Ubuntu in Spanish) in order to the Software center to actually use no proxy. Is this a bug in the Software Center or in the network options?
