Thanks for reporting this bug.

Alt_L is for "Left Alt". So just tapping alt works as you are telling in
the description. Press and redefine to alt + L in the control center if
you want to change it.

  HUD keyboard shortcut is not set correctly

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  The keyboard shortcut for HUD is set up as "Alt L" and this does not
  work. The HUD reverts to the default shortcut of "Alt". I think the
  shortcut needs to be set to "Alt+L" instead because doing that works.
