After A fresh Installation of Ubuntu 12.04:
Under System Settings-> Additional Drivers, no Proprietary Drivers are
listed for my system (I have an integrated Intel HD3000 graphics card
and an NVidia GT 540M dedicated graphics card)
EDIT: As it turns out, the proprietary NVidia drivers are deactivated on
purpose for hybrid graphics with NVidia OPTIMUS technology, as they are
problematic to date. In that case, I think that the user should be
informed about that.
Note that under Ubuntu 11.10 the proprietary graphics drivers for my
NVidia card where detected, but failed to install.
