Artifacts in Unity 2D sidebar and sometimes gets stuck

Bug description:
Occasionally my Unity 2D sidebar gets strange artifacts (see attached
screenshot). Once this happens it often gets stuck in the open
position and no longer automatically hides. Pressing the Super
(Windows) key still brings up the main Unity interface, and holding
down the Super key numbers the currently loaded icons as normal, but
the sidebar still won't hide itself again. Sometimes lots of opening
and closing applications solves this, sometimes it doesn't. Logging in
and out consistently solves the problem.
Is there anything I can do to retrieve more information when this
happens?
