You shouldn't need to reinstall anything, this sounds simply like the packages of network-manager not all being at the same version: this is why we suggest rebooting after these packages change, as indicated by the red icon at the top right corner of the screen (the power symbol). Rebooting is normally sufficient, otherwise there may be an issue with the exact packages being installed separately from a "default" install.
Can you tell what was being installed at the time or just before this appeared?
