I really feel like this is a pretty core piece of functionality for a
word processor. As such this should really work "out of the box" as it
were. Should this bug be filed against the installer for not providing
the appropriate localization packages to make this feature work?

  Spell check does not check spelling.

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  To reproduce: Install 12.04, open libreoffice writer, mash keyboard
  with palm.  Press F7.

  Expected: to have spell checker check spelling.

  Result: Spell check window appears with modal dialog stating "The
  spellcheck is complete". No errors are found.
