Title:
[9.04 amd64 + nvidia = FAIL] jockey hardware drivers installer
Status in “jockey” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
This is a part of bugs series related to nvidia failing on ubuntu 9.04
Bug 1 - empty error message
1. start the hardware driver manager
2. tell it to enable something
3. disconnect network cable / etc
4. after a timeout, an empty message box will appear
Solution: write a message explaining the problem
Bug 2 - no feedback to user, and for-idiots UI that is limiting and
frustrating the user
* If I already installed a driver, I can't force a reinstall it seems
* I wanted to switch to other version of driver and choosen older nvidia
driver from the list and Activated it, but there is no feedback apart from the
progress bar for a moment. Then is closes and still I have option to activate
the drivers...
So, did it succeeded? Did it failed? Why? No idea, because no error messages.
Solution: show a terminal window with the executed command and output,
similar like Synaptic does.
Bug 3 - reinstallation, installation fails
For the first time it worked, then I installed newer kernel, and it doesnt
work, and I can't reinstall it correctly.
