I have Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit Firefox 12.0 12.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
And firefox can't open links from external applications, any application, firefox is uncapable to load a webpage from a link in an external application. First I got the very ANNOYING apport windows, I wanted to report a bug, it opened firefox but it opened the startpage and NOT the Launchpad page, I think -Oh! it may be a problem with apport... then I knew that firefox is the problem, because later with an email I was reading in thunderbird, i clicked in a link just to see the webpage, then a firefox window appeared but with the startpage instead of the webpage in the link I clicked. Well after these I deactivated the Ubuntu modifications plugin in firefox, I tried to file a bug with apport and voila! the firefox home page! It behaved the same with a link in thunderbird. firefox 12 or at least the firefox 12 in precise packaging is uncapable to open webpages from external links. And well... you know guys why I can't use apport to file new bugs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/786718 Title: Clicking links in other applications causes Firefox to open new window, doesn't load page Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox Since I upgraded from Maverick to Natty, Firefox will no longer load webpages when links are clicked in an external application. Rather than the page being loaded in a new tab (after starting Firefox if necessary), it opens a new window and displays the default homepage. The exception seems to be clicking links in Thunderbird, whereupon Firefox tries to load http://www.%f.com/ in a new tab (or window if not already running). The only work around for this seems to be copying links and pasting them into Firefox's address bar. I'd use the new 'ubuntu-bug -w' method of reporting a bug, but as it requires opening the web browser after the report is generated, the chances are good that it might not work. I'll supply other information if necessary (and if I can figure out how to get the required information).
