I confirm that 12.04 clean installation is also affected by this bug. A
workaround is to disable HTML preview and use plaintext vew.

Title:
Can not select text in inbox / preview

Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
It is impossible to select a bit of text from an email (besides in the
actual reply/send window). From the inbox / preview window no matter
where you select text from it selects everything from the start to the
  cursor.

I have not seen this problem on any other apps.
