LibreOffice 3.5.3 for precise is in the libreoffice ppa at
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ppa (rc2 is the final
version of 3.5.3). Could you check if the problem still exists with it?

To reproduce:
Try typing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd into Libreoffice, and you should notice that the
text isn't converted to superscript automatically, like in previous
Ubuntu/Libreoffice Versions.
O.S: Xubuntu 12.04 LTS (but tested on other variants like Lubuntu
aswell).
