thank you for your bug report, is that still an issue? seems like it was
the "unity dialog" feature trying to make the fileselector fit in the

Title:
Default size for Open and Save dialogs is ridiculously small

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  1. Install Ubuntu.
  2. Launch a GTK3 application such as Text Editor.
  3. Choose "File" > "Save".

What you see: A "Save As" dialog containing two lists that are both
too short to display *any items at all*.

What you should see: The dialog should be large enough to be useful by
  default.
