This bug reared it's head for me when upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04 x86_32 this week. I found that by adding a mount for each shared drive you want to connect to eg. //server/kids /media/kids smbfs username=kids,password=kids 0 0 to your /etc/fstab and reloading with sudo mount -a each time you change /etc/fstab is a temporary work around.

These computers contains windows shared folders. When double click on any of these computers takes about 20 seconds for showing a popup windows with error "Unable to mount location, Failed to retrieve share list from server". From the smbclient is possible to access the shared folders.
