I have experienced exactly the same bug. The interesting thing is that when I made I clean install of the Ubuntu 12.04 distro, the VPN connected with no problem at all, and after a few days it just didn't work anymore. This es my syslog info:

I can connect from windows 7 on the same machine with same Server and is working with no problems (Tryied it like 2 hours). In Ubuntu the vpn connection works well for few seconds after cannot connect and then connection is dropped. Here is the log of the connection.
