I have experienced exactly the same bug.

The interesting thing is that when I made I clean install of the Ubuntu
12.04 distro, the VPN connected with no problem at all, and after a few
days it just didn't work anymore. This es my syslog info:

Title:
  Ubuntu PPTP disconect problem

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  I need to connect to a server using PPTP from my Ubuntu Natty 11.04. 
  I can connect from windows 7 on the same machine with same Server and is 
working with no problems (Tryied it like 2 hours). In Ubuntu the vpn connection 
works well for few seconds after cannot connect and then connection is dropped.
  Here is the log of the connection. Any help to make this connection long and 
lasting would be greatly appreciated.

  1-Ubuntu 11.04
  3- I expect to have this working at least as Windows do
