The document, if printed directly from Libre Office Writer, produces noticably higher quality than the same document printed from PDF, to the same printer. A similar-sounding bug was reported in 2009 on Open Office and supposedly fixed in OO, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/462975 I'll attach a demo document.
