Title:
[Intrepid] Opening PTP camera in Nautilus before it's ready causes
error
Status in Nautilus:
New
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
Binary package hint: nautilus
Firstly, I'm really glad to see PTP camera access in Nautilus since
opening F-Spot to access one photo is a real pain. Unfortunately,
I've found a bug:
If I plug in my PTP camera (Nikon coolpix S210) and open it
immediately in Nautilus then Nautilus gives an error and the camera is
then unusable until I unplug it and plug it in again.
The error is "Unable to mount Nikon Corp. NIKON DSC COOLPIX S210-PTP
Error initialising camera: -60: Could not lock the device"
If I wait for a minute after plugging it in without doing anything
(longer than I'd expect) then the "What would you like to do with the
device" message appears and selecting to browse it with nautilus
succeeds. I'm guessing that the "What would you like" app locks the
device and nautilus can't access it, then the "what would you like"
app fails due to nautilus' intervention.
This may be the same as bug 241946, but the submitter for that bug
doesn't mention being able to access the camera if they don't open it
in Nautilus before the dialog appears.
I'd expect:
- the camera to be managed so that nautilus can open it as soon as it
appears in the drive list
- if there must be an error for it not to be fatal to accessing the device
- dialog to appear quickly.
