Public bug reported: I live in the UK, downloaded Ubuntu (and Firefox) from a UK mirror, my IP is UK based, my system settings have UK British English set as defaults system wide, my Firefox settings have English GB set as default. However when I use the search plugins in Firefox or try and search from the address bar, the results are for the US Google site. Prices are in dollars, cities are in the US, news is from the US, etc etc etc.
On inspection the language specific xml files under /usr/lib/firefox- addons/distribution/searchplugins/locale are identical for GB and US. Sadly for me they are for the US sites not the GB sites. The same might be true for the ZA language specific xmls too. As a workaround I can edit the GB ones to correctly point to the .co.uk sites for Google and the other search enginges. Again sadly for me that this is overwritten when FF is updated. lsb_release -rd: Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 apt-cache policy firefox-locale-en: Installed: 12.0+build1-0ubuntu0.11.10.1 Candidate: 12.0+build1-0ubuntu0.11.10.1 Steps to reproduce: 1) Select English GB as system wide language and time / date defaults 2) Select GB English to be language of choice for Firefox 3) Use the Google search engine from the search bar Expected result: Search engine shows .co.uk results (en-GB specific) Actual result: Search engine shows .com results (ignoring system and Firefox preferences) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: firefox-locale-en 12.0+build1-0ubuntu0.11.10.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-20.34-generic-pae 3.0.30 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-20-generic-pae i686 AddonCompatCheckDisabled: False AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.
