wanted to add to this thread; this has happened to me three or four times in 12.04 LTS 64-bit, running on a Lenovo T61. Each time it's happened after closing the laptop (which suspends it automatically), and then opening the lid 20–30 minutes later (which automatically resumes). This last time, I closed the lid, waited for the suspend light to come on steady, unplugged the power, and then resumed it about 25 minutes later.
This is a Lenovo T61 with an NVIDIA discreet graphics card (Quadro 140M), and I'm running the proprietary nvidia driver, version 295.40. All packages are up to date, as is all firmware on the notebook. Please let me know what I can provide you that'll help track this down. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/498694 Title: [SecurityRoadmap] sometimes resume from suspend doesn't ask for password, instead goes to straight to the desktop instead. Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: This happens twice or three times in a month. After resuming from suspend, Ubuntu goes straight to the desktop without asking for a password. It happens randomly. This bug was reported immediately after this happened so maybe you can determine what's the problem from these logs.
