Title:
package gdm 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade:

Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gdm

We were running ubuntu 9.10 and upgraded to 10.04, with gdm
2.28.1-0ubuntu1, where we received an error saying the package could
not be upgraded without additional details. Our system is now
partially upgraded to 10.04 and the upgrade manager is notifying us
that our system may be unstable.

Unfortunately I do not have further details and reproducing the issue
in a terminal is impossible without rolling back the entire system to
an out dated root partition image. I was directed to this page though
by the bug reporting tool which appears to have collected some data on
the problem (at least it was doing something on my end before
directing me here). Hopefully this description is only a supplement
to that data. Having never submitted a bug report before, I'm not
sure what to expect. If useful data has not be auto-submitted, please
feel free to disregard this report.

If however you think you know how I could obtain useful information
manually from the current system state (i.e. partially upgraded to
10.04), I will be happy to oblige any requests for additional
  information.
