MusicBrainz lookup works fine in Rhythmbox 2.96 in 12.04 32 bit. I'll be setting up an AMD64 machine soon and verify Dngrsone's comment.
Dngrsone, did you verify this with several CDs? Some discs in MusicBrainz' database lack CD TOCs and thus can't be looked up. Does CD lookup work with Picard?
