I have also installed Release 12.04 (precise) 64-bit, Kernel Linux
3.2.0-24-generic and cannot get any CD disk to be recognized. I saw
some response on-line of a recomendation to modify the bios settings to
have the CD mounted after boot. I have a Lenovo W520 that does not have
any bios option to allow this. This seems to be a very serious bug. I
tried different mount commands and could not get the drive to be
recognized.

Title:
  cd/dvd mounting failed everytime

Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I am on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit updated to 19.5.2012.

On inserting a cd/dvd on any contend - also blank ones - Ubuntu is not
able to mount the cd/dvd and eject it immediatelly from drive.

In moment I could not use the drive at whole with this bug.

In additional: When the drive has one time ejected a disk a closing of
the drive (emty) causes the same behaviour. It open immediatelly even
if it is emty. A closing of the drive is no longer possible.

  Additional:

This is a regression bug that must be shipped with one of the latest
updates to the system. Following the gvfs change log it could not be
gvfs directly(last change on 16.4.2012), but must be any other
  package.
