Title:
thunderbird sometimes hangs on sending email

Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: thunderbird

When sending an email, thunderbird sometimes completely hangs after the
"Connected to (SMTP server)" stage.
This happens on roughly every 20th email, mainly on emails with an
attachment. (Note that I have a comparatively slow upstream with 64 KBit/s.)
When it hangs, thunderbird completely stops redrawing, and doesn't regain
interactivity even after a long time (I've tried to wait more than an hour), so
finally I have to force-kill it from the window-manager.
TB doesn't show up in top as CPU-intensive, so it's not spinning anywhere.
