ah, wait
rm /home/thom/.cache/gcalctool/eurofxref-daily.xml
that did work.
Now I can't reproduce the error anymore...seems like it was more a glitch than 
a bug.
Mystery unsolved but case closed for now, i think.

Bug description:
  gcalctool has a unit conversion utility
  when this utility is switched to money
  gcalctool crashes on startup

  when starting from CLI, gcalctool reports:

  /home/thom/.cache/gcalctool/eurofxref-daily.xml:36: parser error : Opening 
and ending tag mismatch: form line 35 and td
  <input name="search" type="text" maxlength="50" id="q" value=""/></td>

  deleting the xml file and reinstalling gcalctool has no effect.
