But xpdf 3.02 does show the watermark just fine. For example this datasheet: http://www.pixart.com.tw/upload/PAW3204DB_SPEC%20_V40_20100510100734.pdf Evince shows the 'dotted red' watermark not as a text, but as rectangular areas.
