I have verified that this bug no longer occurs in the latest version of
Ubuntu Software Center in 12.04, version 5.2.2.2. Now, when clicking on
a app available for download in the Unity lens, the currently running
version of Ubuntu Software Center correctly switches to display the
details page for the selected application.
I'll close this one now.

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 11.10 with the latest updates installed, clicking on
applications in the "Apps available for download" section in the
application lense, spawns multiple instances of the Software Center.
In Ubuntu 11.04, this isn't the case and seems to be the correct
behavior.
