Hi Daniel! I have just tried and I cannot reproduce this in the latest
version of Software Center in 12.04 Precise Pangolin. This is testing
while launching both from the launcher and the terminal. I know that we
made some fixes in this area, so I believe it is very possible that this
is now fixed.
When you get a chance could you please retest this one more time and
report back here if you still get this error? Also, please report the
version of Ubuntu Software Center that you are currently testing with.
if you have not already done so, I'd recommend updating to 12.04 as
we've made many fixes and performance improvements this cycle.

Bug description:
If I open software center and at the same time start typing, it either
freezes with a gray screen, with a processing circle or crashes. I was
expecting it to open with what I typed in the search field, but it
seems that the user has to wait a second before starting to type.
