Unity-3D Doesn't Work After Upgrade, but DOES on Live CD Boot

Bug description:
After upgrading to 12.04 beta2, if I login using the "Ubuntu" option
(which is unity-3d), no panels load; I'm left with no menus (just a
blank desktop). I'm forced to choose the "Ubuntu-2D" option, where
after logging in the panels appear.
However, if I boot from the Live CD, and select "Try Ubuntu". I'm
able to experience the Unity-3D desktop just fine. Perhaps upgrading
holds onto some old video drivers, while a live boot uses
newer/different video drivers? I'm not sure.
I'm experiencing this with a Dell Studio 17.
Right now I'm logged into the Unity-3D desktop (with no panels), but
(despite this) I still pass the unity_support_test:
