There is nothing wrong with that line you found, because that's the default greeter location, however, the lines:
user-session=default and greeter-session=example-gtk-gnome might be an issue. We can fix those, but I'm not sure that that file was ever meant to be copied in place. ** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Low => Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993566 Title: lightdm.conf.gz not usable on an Ubuntu system Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I was trying to use the sample lightdm.conf.gz located in /usr/share/doc/lightdm/ as my /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf as I had an old version (pre 0.8) installed on my system. However, when I restarted lightdm I was greeted by the fail safe X mode. Come to find out that the default lightdm.conf had: xgreeters-directory=/usr/share/xgreeters and then lightdm was looking for default.desktop in that directory which didn't exist. I created a symlink for default.desktop to unity- greeter.desktop and that seemed to sort things out.
