Could you test if playing stops between tracks in new rhythmbox 2.97 version?
You can install  rhythmbox 2.97-1ubuntu1~precise1 from official gnome3-team 
repository ( ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 ), see

  When a play-list of vorbis files are played, the playing stops for a
  long time between tracks. Then the playing continues.
