Title:
NetworkManager clobbers resolv.conf, even if it doesn't have any DNS
  info

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

This computer has two wired network interfaces (actually one physical
interface, with one untagged and one tagged vlan). Both are statically
configured via /etc/network/interfaces (should be attached by apport). My DNS
information is manually configured in /etc/resolv.conf. NetworkManager is set
not to touch this interface:
  [main]
  no-auto-default=00:15:17:xx:xx:xx
  [ifupdown]
  managed=false

This used to work fine with jaunty, but since my upgrade to karmic NM
overwrites my resolv.conf with an empty one with just '# Generated by
NetworkManager'. I think the karmic version just ignores the
managed=false (although it's still documented in README.Debian), which
may cause the problem to appear. But the underlying problem IMO is
that it clobbers a resolv.conf (which may be perfectly fine) without
having any DNS information. There's no way to specify DNS information
in /etc/network/interfaces AFAIK. Installing the resolvconf package
appears to fix it, which is an acceptable workaround.
