Title:
network manager does not support DNS caches
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Binary package hint: network-manager
Hi,
this is related to bug #324233, but not the same.
If you use a dns cache (such as pdnsd) together with dhcp, there's a
special requirement: You have to fetch the nameservers from the dhcp
server, but pass them to some script to reconfigure the dns cache
without modifying /etc/resolv.conf.
networkmanager seems to be unable to do that. It can do it in two
ways: Either fetch the nameservers from the dhcp server and replace
/etc/resolv.conf, or take a preconfigured setting and don't pass the
dhcp server's nameserver. That's odd. This also violates the
resolvconf strategy (see #324233).
After all, networkmanager is still not well integrated into the
ubuntu/debian environment.
regards
Hadmut
