I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature request, but I think it is
both. The bug is that I cannot use the Ubuntu logo button in top left
corner to search throuhg applications if unity-place-applications is
not isntalled. I would be fine with that if there was a way to hide
the applications (and places as well) icon in the laucher. I am
running Natty an Unity on Acer AO532h netbook and I am very happy with
it, but in my opininon there should be a configuration option not to
show these buttons, or hitting the Ubuntu logo should work without
installing unity-place-applications and unity-place-files packages.
The icons just take too much space on such a small screen. I
understand that they might be useful for someone, but there should be
a way to switch them off in configuration in ccsm. I believe that
there should be an option not to show the partitions icons as well.
They might be nice for showing an icon of a flashdisk inserted, but if
someone is trying a new distro (like me), he (she) usually have
another partition with a backup distro, a home partition, and possibly
some other partition as well. They all have icons in the launcher, but
they are quite useless there,because they are almost never used. Still
they take much of the presious space.
