I was using unity this morning and somehow got into a strange state:
no windows accepted mouse input but they did accept keyboard input.
Alt-tab worked to switch between windows, but it did not show a
preview. Moving the mouse over the Ubuntu button had no effect, and
no window buttons appear in the top panel. I couldn't see any way to
escape from this other than switching to vt1 and kill-9ing gnome-
session.
