Bug description:
Unity/Xserver crashes in the following situation:
- switch to integrated graphics in bios (intel)
- boot
- gdm autologin into unity --> everything works fine
- shutdown
- switch to ATI graphics card in bios (ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon
HD 3650)
- place laptop in docking station with second monitor connected
- boot
- gdm autologin into unity
And then the only wallpaper is displayed, but no unity or anything
else. Then repeatingly every 3 or 4 seconds the screen gets black and
the wallpaper is displayed again. Occasionally the XServer freezes
(laptop display turns black and looks like it "melts"). Switching to
a console and running "service gdm restart" as root brings up unity
without further issues then.
I've placed a similar comment on issue #772513. The issue is still
there for me on a fully updated Ubuntu 11.04.
Attached is the output of dmesg before restarting gdm. Maybe the line
[ 60.180068] radeon 0000:01:00.0: GPU lockup CP stall for more than
10000msec
is of interested as it was written on console while it happened.
