Title:
NetworkManager does not provide a way for static IP configuration with
DHCP-provided DNS, gateway etc.
Status in NetworkManager:
Confirmed
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
NetworkManager 0.7 (as found in Interpid Beta) does not provide a way
for configuring a static IP for an interface, but get the DNS,
gateway, time servers etc. from DHCP.
This is a commonly found option in other operating systems (e.g. Mac
OS X) where a user can opt for 'DHCP with manual address'. Such a
configuration is required in cases where a static IP is needed, but
cannot be configured by the DHCP server (viz. several Linksys home
gateways whose software lacks static allocation functionality), but
where all other data pertaining to the connection should be retrieved
via DHCP.
