try running Software Center from a terminal window as follows:

open software-center 100% CPU and not reopened
Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
After closing the software-center, at the time of reopening, it
appears with a white background. Looking at the system monitor, it
works continues to operate when there is no process. We must stop the
process in the monitor, then it opens normally.
