Bug description:
Binary package hint: network-manager
On a clean install of 9.10, I noticed my NIC would stay on and
blinking after shutting down my PC. Also happens after reboot before
any OS interacts with the card. eg: If I would reboot and go to the
bios.
This didn't happen on Ubuntu 9.04, nor it happens on my dual boot of
Windows XP.
You could say my network settings within Ubuntu are what the installer
provides by default. I have one NIC, and the IP is assigned using
DHCP.
My network switch does not seem to indicate the traffic as going
anywhere, it's the only port on the switch blinking.
As a test i tried configuring my NIC on /etc/network/interfaces, by adding
these 2 lines:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
The result is the NIC shutdowns properly and remains with no Active
Link nor Activity.
