Title:
NM can't connect via ADSL; pppoeconf and pon can -- AVM IAD 5130
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Binary package hint: network-manager
System: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
Hardware: AVM IAD 5130 [1]
Provider: Alice (Germany)
I expected to configure an internet dialup connection to my DSL through AVM
IAD 5130 with the help of Network Manager.
Instead, Network Manager couldn't create a working dial-up connection through
the desired device.
Further Details:
IAD 5130 is a DSL modem / router.
If IAD 5130 is used as a modem, Network Manager is unable to establish an
internet connection.
Workaround:
pppoeconf easily achieves the desired dialup connection, after leaving
everything in the wizard on default.
unfortunately, as we already know from Bug 404780, the system-wide
configuration changes brought by completing the pppoeconf wizard break Network
Manager, so that it no longer manages network devices.
This has been difficult for many people using modems.
