Closing here as the request is better tracked in the upstream bugzilla
and we don't have the manpower to keep track of upstream wishes here.

Title:
Please prompt user for password for system connection where
  appropriate

Status in NetworkManager:
  Confirmed
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

System connections have no mechanisms for prompting if a password is
no longer correct or not provided. They should!

I believe this will require DBus API changes to network-manager and
changes to use the new API in network-manager-applet. I have a patch
I will send upstream and will link that bug here once filed. This is
a tracking bug, because we likely don't want to do anything that
  upstream doesn't.
