Just tried using gwibber today and experience exactly the same. Running 12.04, xfce, dark theme. Text almost unreadable because the message window is dark/black and so is the font. Also 64 bit

However, I can barely read anything in the window. The text is black, like normal, but the background the text is on is dark grey/gadiant black. Everything else, system wise, seems fine. Running Kopete looks normal, Firefox is fine.
