Not a bug -- we install the PPTP VPN plugin by default; which is why a VPN connection can be attempted -- otherwise you wouldn't even be able to add the connection.
network-manager-vpnc isn't shipped by default yet, though this is being tracked in a different bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager- vpnc/+bug/801283 I'm closing this as Invalid since it's not a bug. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1025890 Title: network manager tries to connect a VPN when the vpnc component is not installed Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: In Ubuntu 12.04 the natwork-manager-vpnc component is not installed by default but if you try to make a VPN connection it will try to connect and fail. network-manager-vpnc should be installed by default and a sanity check should be performed when trying to establish a VPN connection.
