Public bug reported:

i was booted out of my openbox session (while running tmux [with emacs
and mutt], conkeror, gimp, feh, and evince) back to the login screen; i
was doing stuff with gimp and feh at the time. when i logged back in i
cannot run evince, or open it with xdg-open or gnome-open. i get
warnings like this:

$ gnome-open somefile.pdf

(gnome-open:19507): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS
daemon:
Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-ifXg4Yw2h6: Connection refused
GConf Error: No D-BUS daemon running

jon@xe120e:~$ Failed to get bus connection: Error connecting: Connection
refused

or:

$ xdg-open somefile.pdf
Failed to get bus connection: Error connecting: Connection refused

or:

$ evince somefile.pdf
Failed to get bus connection: Error connecting: Connection refused

actually, even running thunar gives me warning messages related to
'DBus'
