upstream closed the bug with that comment

"My understanding of this is that it only affects the tree like structure that
used to be in list view. This is no longer in master.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore.
GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there
will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new
functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a
newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer
version of GNOME."

Title:
  Refresh closes any expanded folders

Status in Nautilus:
  Expired
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

If you expand folders in the RH pane to look at files in multiple
folders at the same time, etc, and then click the refresh button (or
press F5), the folders all collapse and you have just a single folder
  visible.

This is very annoying because I can't always remember which folders I
had expanded, and it's a lot of effort to re-expand them.

I am using Nautilus 2.30.1 on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx)
