Title:
Unity desktop broken after upgrade to 12.04

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Unity desktop worked properly (version 11) before upgrade
After upgrade, there is no launcher at left edge of screen, no bar at
the top of the screen with username, date, etc.
Applications (those I had icons for on the desktop) are accessible,
but there's no top bar with menu options or minimize/resize/close buttons.

I tried uninstalling the NVidia driver, but that made things a lot worse -
random rectangles of the screen would either not
update or would refresh with bits of a previously closed window.
  Reinstalled the NVidia driver.

Gnome keyring is also having issues - keeps saying that keyring was not
unlocked at login, and the password window
  for authentication doesn't accept keystrokes.
