not enough info and i guess the development of that version has stopped you can use the latest versions as well.

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After adding a new contact, logging out and then logging in again, the new contact is gone. Maybe related to: After adding a new contact it appears in the contact list, but always as offline, and messages are sent nor received. And this maybe related to: New contact requests appear, are denied (because they are spam), and then after logging out and in, the same contact requests appear again. All and all it looks like the server doesn't understand that it should register and retain info.
