Indicator menus sometimes appear in middle of screen, not with

Bug description:
Please take a look at the attached photo (cannot easily take
screenshots when indicators are open).
This happens very frequently, although I do not have a test case in
which it can always be reproduced.
Observed both with the version of Unity currently in precise
(unity_5.0.0-0ubuntu3) and in the PPA testing version
(5.2.0~+bzr1884ubuntu0+626). I should mention that this is on the left monitor
of a multiple-monitor setup (however I am not sure if that is relevant).
