I'll argue that users shouldn't have to edit a cross-application hidden
text file to use what appears as a straightforward setting in Rhythmbox
Preferences. Either the Library Location preference should be
authoritative and completely override the default location, or Rhythmbox
Preferences should explain that XDG_MUSIC_DIR will always be scanned and
that the user has no control over this.

Title:
I cannot stop Rhythmbox from scanning XDG_MUSIC_DIR
Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox
I want Rhythmbox to use only ~/akorg✽/music✽/library✽ as its Library
Location.
What I did:
1) Delete ~/Music.
2) Plug in my MP3 player, and choose to run Rhythmbox when prompted.
3) Close and re-open Rhythmbox.
4) In Edit -> Preferences -> Music, set the Library Location to
~/akorg✽/music✽/library✽.
5) Close and re-open Rhythmbox.
Rhythmbox is now scanning my entire home folder. This is bad. In Edit
-> Preferences -> Music, the Library Location is now displayed as
"Multiple locations set". When I tried setting the Library Location
back to ~/akorg✽/music✽/library✽, the "Music files are placed in:"
field displayed "file:///home/ak/akorg✽/music✽/library✽" for a split-
second and then changed back to "Multiple locations set".
