This seems to be fixed in Debian now http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=669961 and upstream in Gnome
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=673833 - it'd be great if it
could somehow make its way into Ubuntu 12.04, but it's probably too late
for that now.

  scroll on workspace swicher doesn't change workspace

Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  In previous versions of Ubuntu scrolling the workspace switcher led to
  actual switching of the workspace.

  Now in 12.04 (Ubuntu Classic 2D) scrolling workspace switcher widget
  does nothing.

  1. Launch ubuntu in Ubuntu Classic (no effects) mode.
  2. Set the number of workspaces > 1.
  3. Add workspace switcher widget (if absent) to the panel.
  4. Move mouse cursore above the widget.
  5. Scroll mouse wheel.

  What should happen:
  Current workspace should change.

  What happens:
  Nothing.

  I am using
  Description:  Ubuntu precise (development branch)
  Release:      12.04
