I don't use unity but I suspect this problem has some commonality with
bug 862313, in fact I believe this ticket is a duplicate of that one.

dash shows multiple icons of applications

Bug description:
Open applications dash board and select all applications for most
complete test case.
I see multiple icon symbols for some applications (low-quality /
low-resolution, high-quality / high-resolution). Some examples:
- abiword
- audacious
- audacity
- beanshell shows even > 5 symbols
- dia
- digikam
- easytag
Additionaly only 1 symbol (high-quality) shows the text description or
application name.
