We have recently changed the way applications talk to the Messaging
Menu. Please apply all updates and restart Thunderbird and Gwibber
manually. Then, they should show up in the menu again.
Note that not all applications have been ported to the new API yet. Only
Thunderbird, Gwibber, and Empathy should show up in the menu for now.

Title:
[Quantal] [Regression] Unread messages indicator empty
Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
After Precise => Quantal Alpha 3 upgrade, the messages indicator in
the top bar appears empty. It used to show unread Thunderbird mail and
Gwibber unread messages previously, now it's just empty with only the
"cleanup notifications" entry, which is greyed out anyway.
