Title:
USB Wi-Fi adapter fails to connect -- rtl8192cu

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I have a built-in wifi adapter and a brand new USB wifi adapter
plugged into my netbook. Both are found by network-manager and both
can "see" my home wifi network ("MMM-net"). However, only the built-in
adapter is able to connect. When trying to connect with the USB
adapter, I am prompted for the passphrase, but after a while, I am
prompted for the passphrase a second time. Then again, after a while I
am prompted for the passphrase a third time. Then it fails, saying the
  network has been disconnected.

I've tried turning off the built-in adapter (in case this 'confuses'
the USB adapter), but this turns off both adapters (i.e. it turns of
  WiFi networking off completely).
